Give it time. They'll adjust...don't force it.
As long as neither aren't hurting each other...it's fine.
You can't expect them to bond over night.

Please don't physically reprimand any of them...that includes not spraying them with water. You want them to form a positive bond...not a negative one and by spraying them with water you're making it negative.

A friend of mine has a small dog whom visits often and my cats were absolutely appalled by her dog. The dog loves giving kisses to anything that moves. However, after frequent visits and just time for them to adapt...the cats became very comfortable with her.

Yay! An Aussie! I have an Australian Shepherd too and he hates cats. Dogs really don't like cats. They like to chase cats whenever the cats move. So it's there instincts. Dogs hate cats.

I used a squirt bottle on a dog. When he started showing intense interest in the cats, I'd give him a short squirt of water, and say "NO CAT" and he'd retreat. He stopped being interested in them which of course made the cats much more relaxed. After a week or two they were all pals.

Have all the pets become familiar with the other pests scent, so none try to establish dominance with violence. Then, put something they use often, and put them together, so that when they do whatever they are used to seeing and familiarizing each other. If all else fails have them play with each other by having them use the same toy.
Hope this helps.

Let your cats adjust to the dog. Forcing them to have contact with him may just freak them out more. Your new addition is doubtlessly a shock to them and cats enjoy having their own space--I've found that playful dogs have no concept or respect for this. When I introduced our new pug puppy, our six cats were completely freaked out (having never seen a dog before, much less such an ugly one) but now, 3 months later, they'll let the dog cuddle with them when they sleep, they'll walk side-by-side, etc. Then there are times when they swat at him to leave them alone...like siblings, I imagine. Good luck!

if the dog is calm near the cats:
1. go somewhere you can get you and your animals together.
2. hold the cats near the dogs and calm them down.
3. once they get used to the dog around them, they wont become scared. this may take time.

if the dog is NOT calm near the cats:
1. go somewhere you can get you and the animals together
2. put the dog on a leash and hold your cats or 1 cat at a time.
3.do this everyday until they are comforatble together.

hope i helped:DD

The dog needs obedience training. He needs to be taught to "leave it" so he will stop trying to play with the cats. Declawed cats have a horrible disadvantage. A cat with claws can teach the puppy quickly what the boundaries are. The poor declawed cat is defenseless and can only try to get away. You need to get the puppy to an obedience class to teach him some discipline since the poor cats can't do it themselves.

Dogs and cats don't go together. People are so weird to get dogs and cats at the same time. Either have a cat or a dog. Geez, how can people take care of these pets at the same time??
