Many people prefer to include natural therapies in the treatment of cancer and vitamin C may play an important role in this treatment.
Vitamin C has for many years been thought to help in the prevention of cancer. It appears to scavenge up free radicals, which cause the damage to cell DNA that often leads to cancer.
However recent research has been done into cancer and vitamin C may actually slow the growth of a tumor!!
This is exciting news for cancer sufferers both animal and human.
Tumors usually grow very rapidly, and because of this, they use up all available oxygen in the tissues around them. They then rely on a little protein which helps them survive in a low oxygen environment. This protein needs free radicals to function. Vitamin C removes the free radicals, inactivating the protein and starving the tumor cells of oxygen.
The result is that the tumor isn’t able to grow. Some research also suggests that adding vitamin K to the treatment improves results.
This research has been done under laboratory conditions, however there have been clinical studies in people that suggest vitamin c can improve the cancer symptoms a patient is suffering. The vitamin is usually given in high doses into the vein.
There are many options for treating cancer and vitamin C may be a useful part of treatment which usually doesn’t have the same side effects as chemotherapy.
